Haystacks of Costa Nova

Costa Nova in Aveiro, Portugal looks like the perfect vacation town by the sea. Fishermen originally used the 'haystacks' - striped houses - as storage facilities for their fishing equipment and at times as temporary shelters. The exterior planks were painted in bright colors to welcome the sea and the fishermen home. Now these whimsical houses have all been renovated into summer homes and rentals.
